and Eliot Spitzer tomorrow
at the blograiser for
Craig Johnson
A little known fact : even though New York has had its fair share of Democratic governors, its state government has been in the clutches of the Republicans for 150 years. The only two times the state government was all blue were in 1932 and 1964. Teddy Roosevelt said once that 'the state Senate is constitutionally Republican'; it's not, but it's been reliably Republican since that party was founded in the 1850s.
It's probably the main reason so many groups have come together to fundraise on Thursday, February 1st, for Craig Johnson.
Today starts the purging of the Democratic Party.
As far as I am concerned, these 21 senators that voted for Roberts have to be weakened, contested and more pointedly, voted out of office in 2006. Ken Salazar has shown to be a Republican plant within the Democratic Party. That man has to go BIG TIME. What Chaffee is to NARAL, Salazar is to the Dems.
These 21 senators become hostage of Republicans in their states and have gladly partaken of the political Stockholm Syndrome that has moved the Democratic Party away of its core values. Lieberman? The next Zel Miller and in a hartbeat.
These bozos have to go.

To members of the Judiciary Committee and the Senate:
We are a group of writers who are passionately committed to supporting women's basic freedom as citizens of the United States. We are appealing to you as free citizens dedicated to political growth, fairness and the spirit of Liberty guaranteed in the US Constitution.
We are not paid pundits or political operatives. We are concerned citizens who represent the diversity of the United States: women and men, straight and gay, single and married, religious and atheist, of different races, religions and ethnicities. Some of us are even parents even after having abortions. And we all blog because we have to.
Here's the deal:
Grassroots activism at the national level, whether online or off is an animal of a completely different kind than the activism that happens at the local level. The local is more personal, more mundane. I have incumbents in city government that live in my neighborhood. You are liable to bump into people even in a city as big as New York.
NYC is a big city and we need more people to fight the good fight. The DNC, the DFA and the liberal blogosphere have basically turned their backs on us.

I am reposting as a diary to make sure the word gets out.
The people who created DeanSpace and are now known as CivicSpaceLabs, have been working with Radical Designs to use the content management platform Drupal with the grassroots organizing tools of CivicSpace and the peoplefinder features of CiviCRM to help people track any missing friends or relatives.
After the jump is Kieran Lal's email :

I am going to be on a conference call with the president of NARAL and some other women bloggers in about an hour. I definitely want to hear what you would like to ask and/or tell her. I will be live-blogging as much as possible at my blogbase,
So let it rip.
(1) Is this comment meant to be a bite at Babyface for having lost the nomination to him?
(2) Is this bite meant to create an opening for pro-choicers to attack Roberts not on his record but on what he could do if on the bench?
(3) Is this Abu's way to ask the Dems to go soft on him in wake of the investigation over possible tampering of evidence over Plamegate?
(4) What does is this comment telling us that Bush doesn't want us to know?
(5) If this is Abu's way of turning on his master, does it mean they're really shitting their pants over at the White House?
I first posted this entry at my blog, culturekitchen, and after I started looking for numbers to counter the cynicism of a lot of people in this site. Too many have been dismissing their fellow American's interest in the Rovegate scandal and now the coming SCOTUS confirmation hearings.
Well, I just couldn't believe that people, my neighbors, are so disconnected from politics that they wouldn't care. For one, SCOTUS and Rove is what everybody seems to be talking about here in my neck of the NYC woods. Second, I've always been suspicious of Bush 51% mandate.
So here you have it people, the Harris Polls numbers you've been waiting.
So the Quinnipiac University | Polling Results are in and the numbers are not looking good for any of the Democrats running for mayor:

Come on over and join us at the lions library. It is imperative to show our faces, voice our dissent and petition --no, demand of Senator Chuck Schumer and Congressman Anthony Weiner to become co-sponsors of a bill that would significantly alter The Patriot Act, the most unpatriotic piece of legislation ever approved by our representatives in the Senate and Congress.
Received this moments ago from our friend Tony Trupiano of The Tony Show who received it himself via Email just moments after going off the air and thus was not able to run it. He tells The BRAD BLOG that he considers his source for this to be "golden"...Just spoke to a Senate press secretary who said Republicans on the Judiciary Committee let them know that they should be prepared for Rehnquist to make a statement sometime between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. tomorrow morning and not to schedule anything during that time. Please be advised.
This report seems to synch up with a report just out at RAW STORY, and with Bob Novak's column this morning which reported that "Rehnquist also will announce his retirement before the week is over."
Geez.
I thought I'd get a break this summer. There's just no time to rest --but I'd like to take a moment and go over some words of wisdom via Jay Rosen of PressThink:
OWN THE WAR BEING FOUGHT IN YOUR NAME
Once in a while I get interviewed by the great people of Campoy en su punto, con Concha García Campoy | PUNTO RADIO; a talk radio show from Spain.
So they want to know what the blogs are talking about Hillary :
(1) Is Hillary running for President? If she is, should she? Does she have support from the grassroots?
(2) Why, oh why, the allegations that Hillary is a lesbian? They wanted to know if this was new but I have been hearing about these allegations as far back as 1990, when I worked briefly on a bio book about her.
OK, now talk amongst yourselves.
